Choosing your Wedding Rings
Shopping for wedding rings can be a confusing process – you’ve spent months gazing at your engagement ring sparkling on its own, how on earth will you find another ring to complement it that you love just as much?

Online inspiration is great for exploring different looks – will you decide on a classic plain band or will you go for some added sparkle? However, the best way to make this decision is by trying on a variety of styles, widths and profiles to see what best matches your engagement ring and which completes the look.
Read on for our advice…
Think About What Your Wedding Band and Engagement Ring Will Look Like Together
Make sure to wear your engagement ring while shopping for your wedding band – this sounds obvious but it’s amazing how many brides to be come in to try wedding rings without theirs on!
Consider how the bands will physically sit together. For example, if your engagement ring is a wedi-fit design (meaning a band can sit right next to it without a gap) it will be easier to find a wedding band that sits seamlessly next to your ring.
If you don’t have a wedi-fit engagement ring and aren’t loving the look of a gap then shaped bands, or even a bespoke design route could be for you. We have even remade engagement rings, removing the stone(s) from their original setting(s) and remounting them in a wedi-fit design so that a classic band can be worn alongside. This can work out more cost effective than having a bespoke shaped wedding ring and potentially a shaped eternity ring over time.
While there are lots of ornate options to choose from, you want to make sure your wedding band doesn’t overshadow your engagement ring. Complementing is more important than matching so that worn together, they look like a set.
Incorporate Your Personal Style
Is your style trendy and modern or traditional and timeless? To have the appearance of a set, we suggest you stick with the same metal type and colour. Are you likely to wear your wedding ring on its own (for example if you can’t wear your engagement ring to work)? If so, do you love it on its own too?

Consider Your Lifestyle
Do you sit at a desk all day or is your day-to-day more active? The answer to this question can help inform what kind of wedding band you should buy. A plain band can be embellished with a diamond cut finish for a subtle sparkle without stones. If you have an active lifestyle but you don’t want to sacrifice sparkle, consider a wedding ring with channel set diamonds where the stones are set side-by-side in an open channel to keep them secure.
Consider Personalizing Your Wedding Rings
A special message, a line from ‘your song’ or simply names, initials or wedding date, if you want some sort of engraving on the inside of your band, make sure you choose one that is wide enough to accommodate it.
Shop Early
We advise clients to shop for wedding rings as far as six months in advance of the wedding to allow plenty of time for the rings to be made. Also, to allow for a sensible amount to be allocated in the wedding budget – remember it’s the only wedding expense you will continue to use and enjoyed after the big day – if your dream ring is more than you had thought of budgeting you may regret spending on the favours, décor and sparkly dance floor if you leave the ring shopping til the last minute!
Just as finding the perfect engagement ring takes time, so does finding the perfect wedding band. You might want to visit multiple retailers, or simply spend time at one jewellery store really thinking through the options. This is something you’ll be wearing for the rest of your life, so you want to make sure you pick out the right ring!

Shop Together
Since you’ll both be wearing wedding rings, it’s a fun opportunity to participate in this wedding planning activity together, especially if one of you has been more involved in the planning and organising up til this point.
Shopping together can also help you narrow down the ring style you like best. Having each other there can also be helpful when narrowing your favourites down to ‘the one.’ Don’t be swayed by how the rings will look together in a photograph on the day (a popular Instagram pic but your photographer will figure out how to make the two look good together whatever you choose!) or think that they need to be matching – what suits your finger and your skin tone will likely be entirely different to your fiancés.
